The contract...

Here is the contract.  I have blocked all names and acronyms that were on these documents.  I think you also will find it misleading, contradictory, and, less than transparent.  Please pay special attention to the Birth parent Counseling section of the contract. See if you can figure out how much you would be getting charged from this agency to facilitate an adoption.  How about getting charged for phone calls?  Is it covered in the birth parent counseling deposit as the contract states, or is it in the special services as the contract also states?  After our experience with the agency, it is my opinion that the only thing black and white about this contract is that it is not.   To read  our entire story be sure to check out all of my posts.  Thanks for following, hopefully the infomation in this blog will help someone make informed, better educated decisions when pursuing their own adoption.

  1. I am a birth mother (1990) and counseling for me was never offered as an option. The minute I walked in to the agency, it was assumed I had made up mind and the adoption option was a done deal. I was not given a choice to change my mind. When the subject was brought up, I was steered toward "keeping my promise". I was told you'll be ok, you'll have other children.

Well I wasn't ok. 20 years later the process of reuniting with my son has been rough to say the least. I went through a year long greiving process. I thought I was losing my mind at times. I sought counseling which helped. Had that counseling been available to me when I was 19, the guilt and sadness I have been carrying around all these years would have been resolved.

I can't change the past, but can help be an advocate for birthparents to be offered help through the grief process.

Adoption is based on loss, loss for the adoptive family due to their inability to conceive, loss for the adoptee of a biological family, and a loss for the birthparents of a child.

    Adoption reform is necessary!!!!

    1. Thank you for taking the time to read my story and thank you for sharing yours! I believe the first step towards adoption reform is people like us sharing our experiences with as many people as possible. The information in our stories can be so valuable to birth parents and adoptive families who's lives for one reason or another have led them to adoption. I am hoping to meet with our local senator in the near future to see what direction he can give me in regards to adoption reform....what can I do to help with that change. I believe strongly that birth parents and adoptive families deserve protection "by law". Please share this blog/story with everyone you can. Best Wishes

  2. First of all, we are not "birthmothers" we are MOTHERS! Second....that's what you get for trying to buy a baby!

    1. first of all I have the highest respect in regard for mothers. I'm sorry that you find the term birth mother is offensive or insulting. might I suggest letting adoption agencies child protective services or any other agency that uses that term to define the woman who actually gives birth to a child your feelings on this as it is not a term I personally made up myself. I agree that the costs involved in adopting a child are absolutely outrageous! the fact that option agencies in lawyers profit so have a way of the journey a loving mother may take to find a loving secure home for her child that she may feel she cannot provide is sickening. I encourage you to do what I did and contact your congressman and other elected officials to let them know how you feel on the subject.
also I would like to add that to you for a licensed foster home long before we were approached by a woman who wanted us to adopt her unborn child. we agreed in called our county social worker to see what we needed to do we were advised that we needed to contact a private adoption agency as that is the only legal way to facilitate an adoption in our state. we never needed a baby right from the womb! we have welcomed several children into our lives through foster care. as challenging as being a foster parent can be at times all of the children that would care for have been a blessing and we will always love! however we would love to welcome a child into our lives permanently.
a little side note... we also have to wonderful dogs, chicken ,fish and it very large bunny rabbit that children love to play with. I hope you can find some comfort inn knowing that there are people like us out in the world who are willing to share their love and happiness and live with children who may not otherwise have that. because as I'm sure you know the world is filled with jaded, angry, one sided people out there spreading their agenda
